The al-Nusra Front reported on a clash in which its fighters and those from three other jihadi factions repelled a Syrian army advance in the Jabal al-Turkman mountains in Syria's northern Latakia province on March 3, 2013.
In a communiqué issued on jihadist forums on March 7, the al-Nusra Front stated that in cooperation with the Hittin Brigade, the Ibn Taymiyyah Brigade, and the Suqur al-'Izz Brigade, fighters removed Syrian soldiers and shabiha (pro-regime thugs) from their positions in Ghamam village, and stopped an attack on Bait 'Awan village in Jabal al-Turkman. The group added that three of its fighters were killed: Abu Usama al-Janubi, who is a Shariah official, and Abu Bara'a al-Shamali, and Abu Mu'adh al-Gharbi.
Al-Gharbi, "the Westerner," might be Abdul Malik al-Dinmarki, a Danish fighter who jihadists reported was killed in the Jabal al-Turkman mountains on March 3.
