Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), operating under the name "Ansar al-Shariah," claimed concurrent raids on camps of Yemeni security forces in the cities of Qatn and Sayun in Hadramawt province, and claimed the ambush of soldiers in Shabwa.

The claims came in seven messages posted on a corresponding Twitter account between August 6 and August 7, 2014. In addition to the claims, the account also posted three pictures of fighters in Qatn including AQAP officials Harith bin Ghazi al-Nadhari and Hamza al-Zinjibari. The first message reported that AQAP fighters killed three Yemeni soldiers and wounded two others in Shabwa.
