Chatter Amongst Jihadist Forum Members Concerning Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades Concentrating Solely Upon Iraq, and Traveling for Jihad

Following the July 22, 2005 Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade's communiqué claiming responsibility for the second London attacks, which also included an ultimatum to the European governments to remove their troops from Iraq, a member of the al-Qaeda affiliated forum responded directly to the message asking: why the group is solely concentrating on Iraq, and not Afghanistan: “Did you forget Afghanistan?”

From Iraq to the Scholars of Saudi Arabia

A message allegedly written by a representative from a group of students in Iraq addressed to the “scholars of the Haramein Land (Saudi Arabia),” was recently posted to an al-Qaeda affiliated forum, which advises the scholars to ask their counterparts in Iraq about the jihad waged against the “occupiers,” rather than issuing condemnatory fatwas based on information gleaned from a “phone call.”

Suggestion to Join Virtual Terrorist Cell, Rather than Operating Alone, Posted to Jihadist Forum

A message posted to an al-Qaeda affiliated message board today, July 20, 2005, poses the question: “Can an individual perform any operation by himself?,” participating in jihad outside of a terrorist cell.  Another member of the forum responds that though one may operate alone, “it is preferable to work with a cell from 2-3 people at least,” and he suggests creating a “virtual cell” over the Internet, with likeminded members for the exchange of thoughts, “work plans, strategies, and educational materials.”

A message recently posted to an al-Qaeda affiliated jihadist forum asks: “Did the American Economy Start to Fall?,” to which members discuss the current state of the American economy, including the budget deficit and trade imbalance, as well as comments from Senator John Kerry (D-MA) and Morgan Stanley Chief Economist Stephen Roach in this regard.
