Inching Closer to Guinea, JNIM Claims Raid on Malian Security Post in Border Town
Inching closer to Guinea, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM), claimed a raid on a Malian security post in a border town between the two countries, and separately, took credit for a bomb blast on a Malian army vehicle in Segou province.
Al-Zallaqa Foundation, the central media unit for the Sahel-based branch of al-Qaeda (AQ), issued two Arabic communiques, one on March 5, 2024, for an attack that day in Segoe, Mali, and the other on March 7, for an attack that day in Kouremale, in Koulikoro province.
In Kouremale, which it noted lies southwest of the Malian capital, Bamako, fighters struck a post, causing its personnel to flee, then seizing weapons. Previously, on February 3, JNIM reported an operation on a Malian gendarmerie post in Narena village, close to the Guinean border. The two towns are separated by a distance of approximately 37 km.
